Dental Checkup During And After Pregnancy

Pregnant women should take special care of their teeth because

1). Hormonal changes during pregnancy increase the risk of developing gum disease. Bulbous swelling of gums called pyogenic granuloma or pregnancy tumor can develop during pregnancy.

2). Decayed teeth should be restored in time so as to prevent the need of more invasive procedures such as RCT and extraction during pregnancy.

3). Pregnant women with gum disease have 7.5 times more risk of preterm delivery and giving birth to low birth weight infant.
