Regular dental visits are important because they help to keep your teeth and gums healthy. You should have a regular dental visit at least every 6 months.
Regular dental visit is required for:
a). Routine Check-Up
For early detection of cavities & to see there is any plaque & tartar on your teeth. Plaque is clear, sticky layer of bacteria. If plaque not removed, it hardens and become tartar (calculus). You can't remove tartar with brushing and flossing. When plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, they cause oral diseases. Next, your gums will be check by your dentist. Dentists have special tool to measure the spaces between your teeth and gums. Shallow spaces indicate healthy gums. In patients suffering from advanced gum disease, the spaces become deeper. Other parts of your oral cavity; tongue, throat, face, head, and neck, TMJ are also examined.
Brushing and flossing help clean the plaque from your teeth, but you can't remove tartar at home. During professional cleaning (scaling) your dentist will use special tools to remove tartar.
